An expansive new rooftop bar and Asian-fusion restaurant with a 1960s retro vibe is making its debut at the newly opened Moxy Hotel by Marriott in St. Pete's EDGE District.

The 4,000-square-foot Sparrow is nestled on the top of the boutique hotel at 1234 Central Avenue, will open to the public on Friday December 20th.

Jake Wurzak, president of Wurzak Hotel Group, which manages the 163-key Moxy Hotel, describes Sparrow as an upscale bar “but not a velvet-rope kind of vibe,” adding, “we are bringing it to St. Pete because it has been so successful in Fort Lauderdale. And we think a lot of what we did in Fort Lauderdale will do fantastic in St. Pete. We're making some additional enhancements, as well.”

Sparrow’s interior draws inspiration from the clean lines and natural materials of 1950s and 1960s American Modernism with plush turquoise couches, brass accents, and terrazzo floors.

Step outside onto an expansive outdoor terrace to experience panoramic views of the city’s skyline while enjoying one of Sparrow’s craft cocktails.

The drink menu features nearly 20 easy drinking, tropically influenced riffs on classic cocktails with selections like Passion No. 5 which consists of Green Tea Ketel One Vodka, Chinola Passion Fruit, Lillet Blanc, lime juice, seltzer, and black salt. Another selection, Midnight Child, contains Diplomatico Rum, PX Sherry, espresso, and dark chocolate.

Sparrow also offers around four types of big batch cocktails for groups, such as Psychic Visions Punch, which serves two to four people and contains Lustau Manzanilla Sherry, Lillet Rosé, Don Julio Blanco, hibiscus, watermelon & lime juices, and pamplemousse.

An assortment of red, white, rosé, and sparkling wines is also available, in addition to several foreign and domestic draft beers. In keeping with the Asian theme, nine varieties of artisanal sake are also available by the glass or bottle.

Getting hungry? Sparrow’s food menu features small and large plates, sushi, and bao buns.

Small plates range from a daily selection of oysters, Thai and Caesar salads, crispy rice & spicy tuna tartare, and pork dumplings to bang bang shrimp tacos and mojo-chili glazed chicken skewers served with sour orange crema.

Meanwhile, the large plates include hearty meals like 12-ounce prime New York strip steak topped with sautéed mushrooms, Japanese chimichurri, and kimchi butter; Korean fried chicken with kimchi and Gochujang seasoning; and octopus anticucho, a Peruvian dish of octopus marinated in anticucho sauce and grilled, served with a crispy potato, chimichurri, corn, and Aji Amarillo Crema.

There is a separate menu of bao buns, which are steamed Chinese buns with a soft, pillowy dough, that can be filled with pork, duck, or mushrooms and are topped with a mix of soy glaze, cucumbers, and scallions.

The sushi menu contains traditional rolls like salmon and veggie rolls, in addition to more adventurous options like Yellowtail Ceviche Tostada made with hamachi; Aji Amarillo, a South American hot chili pepper); and Leche de Tigre, a spicy, citrus-based marinade used to cure and flavor Peruvian-style ceviche.

For something sweet, diners can order the Sparrow Snowball, a coconut tres leche cake with passion fruit coulis; a chocolate lava cake; or banana pudding with caramel sauce.

Sparrow's operating hours will be Thursdays from 5 p.m. to midnight and Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The new rooftop restaurant and bar joins several other food and beverage options inside the Moxy Hotel, such as a lobby bar, a coffee shop, and a rooftop pool bar.
