Aldi supermarket to open on 22nd Avenue North in west St. Pete
/Discount supermarket chain Aldi is set to open a new store in St. Petersburg in a vacant retail space formerly occupied by Hitchcock's Green Market and Lucky's Supermarket.
The new Aldi location will be located at 6765 22nd Avenue North in west St. Pete.
The 28,605 square foot store is adjacent to Tyrone Square Mall in a shopping center shared by Dick’s Sporting Goods, PetSmart, and Five Below according to a leasing brochure from Seritage Growth Properties, which owns the center.
A public relations firm hired by Aldi confirmed that the company is planning a new store in St. Petersburg but would not confirm the location. However, it seems very likely that the store is planned for Sertiage’s property at Tyrone Square Mall given that it’s included in leasing brochure.
Aldi is a globally recognized grocer with over 11,000 stores worldwide. The company operates on a low-cost business model that offers high-quality goods at a significantly lower price than competitors.
The opening of the new Aldi store in St. Petersburg comes at a time when the city is experiencing growth in its western neighborhoods with several new residential and commercial developments in the area.
Earlier this year, Porter Development announced plans for a 1,058-unit garden-style multifamily development on a 29-acre site just half of a mile from the future Aldi location. Over 300 units, or 30% of the total residential units, will be set aside as income-restricted workforce housing.
Currently, there are two existing Aldi supermarket locations in St. Petersburg, FL. The first is located at 2900 34th Street South in the Skyway Marina District, and the second is at 1551 34th Street North in North Kenwood.
The opening of Aldi at Tyrone Square Mall will be the third location in the city.
Keep an eye out for more details about the store's opening date and hours of operation in the coming months.
