A cold-pressed juice and superfood smoothie bar is opening its first Tampa Bay location in downtown St. Pete.

New York City-based franchise Pure Green is preparing to debut at 1041 Central Avenue in the EDGE District. The space was formerly occupied by dessert shop Cecelia's Sweets & Vampire Penguin, which closed in late September.

Pure Green sells nutrient-packed juices, made-to-order smoothies with superfood ingredients, and oatmeal and fruit bowls.

The shop will be headed by local franchisee Russell Browning Jr.

Browning and his family have resided in St. Pete for over a year, searching for the ideal storefront for Pure Green, which has locations across South Florida and throughout the United States.

Hurricane Milton’s 83 miles per hour winds caused damage to the roof that Pure Green and neighboring Sans Market share when it made landfall earlier this month near Sarasota as a Category 3 storm.

Despite the roof damage, the store is still scheduled to open soon.

All of the smoothies, fruit bowls, and toasts will be made in-house, Browning Jr. said to St. Pete Rising.

The cold-press process, which entails extracting juice from fruits and vegetables, will be done offsite.

Cold-press drinks retain more of the vitamins, enzymes, minerals, and antioxidants than traditional juice. Many of Pure Green’s cold-pressed juice flavors contain up to five pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables in a single bottle, according to the company.

Cold-press juice offerings include selections like Pure Gingerade, which is filtered water, ginger, lemon, agave, and cayenne. Another popular juice is the Grape Hydr8, a blend of grape, dragon fruit, lemon, probiotics, and pink Himalayan salt.

The smoothie menu features fifteen 20-ounce drinks, such as the coconut water-based Pure Green smoothie, which includes kale, spinach, mango, banana, pineapple, and coconut water.

There are many almond milk-based smoothies as well, including the Mocha Cold Brew crafted with cold brew coffee, raw cacao, almond butter, banana, and grass-fed whey protein, and the Tropical Breeze smoothie blended with mango, pineapple, coconut butter, and orange juice.

Additionally, the juice bar will serve a variety of toasts with spreads like avocado, hazelnut, and almond butter.

Like the acai bowls, the organic steel-cut oatmeal bowls can be topped with various fruits, chia seeds, cashew butter, cinnamon, and raw honey.

Pure Green has not announced an official grand opening date for the St. Pete store. However, Browning is currently hiring staff.

The Pure Green company was founded in 2014 by wellness industry expert Ross Franklin. Pure Green opened a few brick-and-mortar retail stores in New York City before it grew into a national franchise and a wholesale division.

In 2020, Pure Green crowdfunded over $1 million from more than 5,000 investors to aid in the company’s expansion efforts.

The franchise is also opening a new store in Naples.
