9-unit townhome community Canopy Oaks breaks ground in St. Pete's Euclid St. Paul
Vertical construction has begun on a new infill housing development in St. Petersburg’s Euclid St. Paul neighborhood.
St. Petersburg-based Backstreets Capital and Canopy Builders are developing Canopy Oaks, a nine-unit community at 1920 Dr. MLK Jr. Street North that will feature six luxury townhomes, two villas, and one single-family residence.
In having three styles of residences, the developer hopes the project appeals to different types of buyers.
“We are thrilled to bring this project to life and believe this type of development is exemplary of how to integrate new homes into established neighborhoods.” Canopy Builders President and CEO Ben Gelston said in a statement.
The group purchased the land in a series of transactions between September 2021 and April 2022 for a total of $2 million.
The Canopy Oaks Townhomes will be three stories and 2,491 square feet with three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. Each residence will have a two-car garage and a private balcony. Finishes include high-end kitchens with quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, tiled backslash, 10’ ceilings in the main living area, and engineered hardwood floors.
The Canopy Oaks Villas will be two stories and 2,219 square feet with three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Each residence will also have a two-car garage and a private covered lanai with the option for an outdoor kitchen. The villas will feature similar finishes as the townhomes.
The single-family home will feature four bedrooms and three bathrooms along with a study and loft and will be designed in a Craftsman style.
Also on the parcel is a two-story frame building, built in 1915, that sits at the northwest corner of Dr. MLK Jr. Street North and 19th Avenue North. Canopy Builders renovated the building and moved its offices into it in 2021.
“The MLK corridor offers so much for residents living in the area with an abundance of restaurants, shops and services within walking distance - and it’s so close to downtown,” says Gelston.
Construction has begun and is expected to wrap up in late 2023. Pricing for the residences starts at $960,000.
