Beans and Barlour bringing bagels and boozy desserts to Central Avenue
Tampa Bay’s favorite craft coffee bar and dessert lounge is on the move! Beans and Barlour has just signed a lease at 407 Central Avenue in downtown St. Pete, just one block east of their current location at 538 1st Avenue North. Joe Esposito represented the landlord and Jenna Malowany and Joe Esposito, both with KW Commercial, represented Beans and Barlour in the deal..
Owners Story Stuart and Steve Bliven opened Beans and Barlour in 2018 serving outrageously delicious and highly Instagrammable alcoholic desserts, ice cream, and coffee. Customer favorites include the Pina Colada Dole Whip Float and the Spiked Lavender Lemonade Slush.
Beans and Barlour has even received national attention for their desserts. “You Can Even Eat The Dishes", which features a scoop of ice cream served with a chocolate cup, chocolate saucer, and chocolate spoon was highlighted on BuzzFeed’s Bring Me in 2019.
The new location will allow Beans and Barlour to expand their offerings beyond just desserts, milkshakes, and cocktails. Items that have previously only been available via special order, such as boozy pints of ice cream and cakes, will now be available all day in a grab-and-go case.
But perhaps most exciting will be the addition of authentic NY-style bagels, which will be made fresh every morning. Over ten varieties of bagels will be available, including plain, everything, jalapeño cheddar, pumpernickel, cinnamon raisin, sundried tomato, and rainbow. House-made cream cheese flavors, such as plain, veggie, sriracha, strawberry sprinkle, garlic & fresh herbs, and vegan, will also be offered.
As for pricing, a single bagel is $1.50, six bagels are $8, and a dozen is $15.
The idea to offer bagels came a few months ago when Stuart and Bliven noticed a lack of good quality bagels in downtown St. Pete. They decided to test the market with a Saturday morning bagel pop-up at Beans and Barlour.
The response was immediate and overwhelming. Four days after announcing the event, they had received over 1,000 preorders for the bagels. And that’s when Stuart and Bliven decided it was time to start searching for a new location that would allow them to make the bagels a permanent offering.
The bagels at Beans and Barlour aren’t just in the New York style, but they’re sourced directly from the Big Apple. Stuart and Bliven have partnered with an authentic New York-based bakery that ships the bagel dough to St Pete. The bagels are subsequently boiled and baked in Sunshine City in the early morning hours before the shop opens.
For the first time, Beans and Barlour will be offering a daytime coffee and breakfast service. A variety of bagel breakfast sandwiches will be on the morning menu as well as several grit bowls.
The new location will be able to seat 20 to 30 people inside and an additional 80 people outside on the Central Avenue sidewalk and inside the Snell Arcade.
Beans and Barlour is expected to open at 407 Central Avenue this June. In the meantime, visit their original location at 538 1st Avenue North before it shuts down in late May. You can also visit Beans and Barlour inside Al Lang Stadium during this season’s Tampa Bay Rowdies games and at Tropicana Field during Tampa Bay Ray’s home games!
